The Heavenly Demon Patriarch or Cheon Ma (천마조사, 天魔祖师)[2], real name Larisha, also known as Jeong and "Mok Gyeongwoon", is the founder of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult as well as the Cheon Family's ancestor. He was the first person given the title of the Heavenly Demon/Cheon Ma and was regarded as the greatest martial artist in all of Wulin history[3]
He is the central protagonist of the prequel novel, 괴력 난신(소설) [1] or Myst, Might, Mayhem that is currently in serialization as it follows his life story and journey in becoming the 1st Heavenly Demon in the world.[3]
Personality[]
The Patriarch was a ruthless and terrifying figure, possessing a cruel streak that made his descendant, Yeo Woon, seem tame by comparison. His murderous nature struck fear into the hearts of villains, evil spirits, and ordinary people alike, forcing them into submission rather than resistance.
However, beneath his brutality lay a sharp intellect and quick wit, which he used to his advantage throughout his life. A deep thinker driven by curiosity, he constantly sought growth as a martial artist. Despite his fearsome reputation, he was known for his unwavering smile—finding the time to grin no matter the situation.

Cheon Ma as he appears in Myst, Might, Mayhem.
Eight hundred years before the time of Cheon Yeo Woon, the man destined to become the first Heavenly Demon was a teenage boy named Jeong. He lived with his grandfather, an herb collector who always warned him never to reveal his true nature. However, his grandfather is brutally murdered, and Jeong succumbs to his rage. He goes on a killing spree, though he managed to find the murderer, he was ultimately defeated and sentenced to death.
While imprisoned, Jeong encountered Mok Gyeongwoon, the young master of the Mok Sword Manor, who was stunned by their identical appearance. Seeking to usurp his family's heirship, Mok Gyeongwoon devises a plan to use Jeong as his stand-in. However, before they could leave the prison, Jeong breaks Mok Gyeongwoon’s neck with his bare hands, killing him. From that moment on, he assumes the identity of "Mok Gyeongwoon" and infiltrates the sword manor.
During his time at the manor, Jeong now "Mok Gyeongwoon" comes across a book on shamanism and gains the ability to commune with spirits. While exploring a hidden chamber, he discovers a sinister book bound in human skin, inadvertently releasing the dangerous Blue Spirit. The spirit attempts to possess him, but through sheer willpower, he subdues her and makes her his familiar. Under her guidance, Mok Gyeongwoon swiftly grasped the fundamentals of cultivation and martial arts, marking the beginning of his rise to power.
His journey is chronicled in a prequel novel, detailing his adventures across the Wulin. Along the way, he secretly mastered various martial arts by observing and refining the techniques of numerous martial artists.
By the age of 18, Jeong now known as Cheon Ma had reached the pinnacle of martial arts, defeating renowned masters with a single sword and earning the title of the world's greatest warrior[2].
Among his influences are Jin Woon-Hwi and Sima Chak, hailed as the greatest swordsmen of their era. Cheon Ma studied his sword arts, including the Supreme Sky Demon Sword, which was designed to counter all existing techniques.[4]
His talent was unparalleled—he never required a teacher and could replicate any technique after witnessing it just once, a feat even his descendent Yeo Woon, with Nano’s assistance, could not achieve instantly. Throughout Murim’s history, no warrior or demon ever stood as his equal.
In the world of Wulin, Cheon Ma was regarded as one of the "Four Great Warriors," alongside the 'Lone Supreme Warrior' Dokgo Gupae, Bodhidharma, and Jang Sambong[3].
Nano Machine[]
Now known as the Heavenly Demon God[5], he pursues the path of absolute strength, believing power reigned supreme. Despite his reputation being overshadowed by other factions at times, he was the only warrior who shook the entire Wulin [3].
His greatest achievement was the creation of the Sword Force of the Heavenly Demon, one of the most powerful martial arts ever conceived. This technique was inspired by the sword arts of Sima Chak, one of the Four Great Evils from the Blood Demon era. By chance, he encountered the old supreme, who demonstrated the Moonless Void Sword before departing.
To solidify his rule, he founded the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult with the aid of the Guardian Families. Cheon Ma would also establish the Heavenly Demon's Order, an unbreakable code followed by all members of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult, including its Lord. He also created the black Heavenly Demonic Energy, granting him absolute control over his subordinates. Many of his followers believed he was the incarnation of the Demon God.
The Prophecy[]
A "Prophet", who was actually his own descendant, Cheon Mu-Sung, foretold the arrival of an immortal who would threaten the Wulin, including the cult. To counter this impending threat, he devised three plans: The first plan was to prevent anyone from using their cores to achieve immortality. However, he discovered that even if a spirit beast was slain, another would eventually emerge due to their natural connection to the world. [6] https://skydemonorder.com/projects/nano-machine/467-natural-state-heavenly-master-3[3]. His second plan was to turn a future cult leader into an immortal. He discarded this idea, fearing it would lead to infighting and disrupt the cult. Moreover, he rejected immortality for himself, as it was not the path he sought. He believed that future problems should be solved by the generations that faced them and founded the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult not out of malice but to develop techniques capable of suppressing the immortal's immortality by corrupting spiritual energy.[6]
His final and chosen plan was to personally kill the prophesied Immortal Being and prove that true immortality did not exist. To accomplish this, he expanded his understanding beyond martial arts, delving into spiritual energy, force, and even Buddhist teachings. Through this, he attained enlightenment.[6]
The Battle Against Blade God[]
Eventually, he confronted Blade God at Sword Creek. Finding his opponent's techniques inferior even to the Great Guardian’s, he dismissed them as nothing more than a basic understanding of qi. Though he decisively defeated Blade God, he could not kill him due to his extraordinary regeneration.
Contrary to Yeo Woon's speculation, the Heavenly Demon successfully mastered the Extreme Art of the Blade God and attempted combined it with his own Sword Force of the Heavenly Demon. However, he deemed the resulting technique too difficult to pass down, choosing to leave it incomplete. It was later completed by Yeo Woon and renamed the Sword Art of the Demon God.
Legacy and the Heavenly Demon Sword[]
Before departing, he recorded the secrets of his martial arts on five sapphire monoliths, scattering clues throughout the cult, particularly at what would one day become the Demonic Academy. He also left behind his legendary Heavenly Demon Sword<, which remained hidden for centuries until it was inherited by Yeo Woon.
During Yeo Woon’s battle with Blade God, he had a vision where he encountered a vestige of the Heavenly Demon's will within the sword. There, the First Heavenly Demon revealed that the Sky Demon Energy was created specifically to suppress Blade God’s immortality. Before vanishing, he imparted the Non-Existent Sky Demon Sword technique to Yeo Woon, entrusting him with the task of finally defeating Blade God.
Descent of the Demon God[]
When Yeo Woon infiltrated and attacked the Murim Association, he successfully destroyed the EV Field with the Legendary Heavenly Master Level being revealed to many martial artists. In the entire history of Murim, there are only five masters that reached that level along with himself, and they're the First Monk of Shaolin Temple, Jang Sambong from the Wudang Sect, the Blade God, and the 1st Heavenly Demon God, and the 2nd Chun Ma / Demon God Cheon Yeo Woon[7].
In the past, along with the Five Spirit Beasts lived the Three Yokai that existed in the beginning. One of them was the Golden-haired Gumiho that terrorized humans. Then, one day, he encountered the Golden Gumiho and defeated it. However, he didn't kill the yokai. The Gumiho then questioned him, and he just answered that he wasn't interested. After the Golden Gumiho recovered, he was always visited and challenged but won every battle against the Yokai.
Eventually, the Gumiho turned into a beautiful woman who always accompanied him as his protector. However, she was heartbroken when the Heavenly Demon parted ways with her, and even after hearing rumors of his death, she waited several centuries for his return[8].
His backstory is revealed when Yeo Woon inherited the memories and absorbed the demonic power of the Demon King Taura. His original name was Larisha (meaning Black Flame in the demon's language), and he was the Demon King of another planet. Weary of the constant war with his rival, Talisha, Larisha sought to migrate to Earth and suggested cooperating with the humans over there. In one battle, Larisha and Talisha were badly injured, and the former retreated to his palace to recover.
There, he was confronted by his subordinate Taura. Taura was furious that the real reason Larisha wanted to migrate to Earth and cooperate with humans was because he was in love with a human woman. Taura threatened to exterminate humanity. Larisha gave up his reign and permitted Taura to become the new king, on the condition that he was forbidden to enter Earth.
Taura furiously shoved Larisha through a Gate (planetary portal). Larisha recovered from his injuries and his body and soul regressed due to his condition and transformed then he was adopted by an old man and mastered 'earth' martial arts and took a new name as the "Heavenly Demon". He married the woman of his dreams, founded the Heavenly Demonic Cult, and became the founding patriarch and ancestor of the Cheon Family. He also discovered that the roots of his clan originated on Earth, and their ancestors passed through the Gates into the Demon Realm. They grew strong as they evolved to survive the harsh environment, with thin air and dangerous inhabitants. Years later, Taura and Talisha both attempted to attack Larisha at different times and conquer the world again but were soundly defeated. Larisha reclaimed his sword (which became famous as the Heavenly Demon Sword) from Taura[9].
While watching the memory, Yeo Woon realized that while he believed he had surpassed his ancestor after reaching Void Master, Chun Ma is still far above him. Yeo Woon only touched Cheon Ma's level after absorbing the demonic power of Taura.
!!He is not taught by anyone. They are just showed him a technique and he copied them.(Hwanya Seon-Baek Saha-Sima Chak-Jin Yerin-Jin WoonHwi)!!
